Todd Cleverly

Todd Eugene Cleverly was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 15, 1964 to Glen and Elaine (Cederlof) Cleverly. Todd passed away at home surrounded by his family on February 5th, 2024.

Being born with Down Syndrome came with challenges but in spite of those difficulties, he truly accomplished many great things. At a young age, Todd was the poster child for the special needs students of Davis county. When Todd was in elementary school he was involved in the Special Olympics. He ran, did the standing broad jump, and threw the softball. He was honored to receive one of his gold medals from Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who was the founder of the Special Olympics. He was also able to run the torch for the Utah Special Olympics and give the Special Olympic oath.

Todd was blessed with many teachers and administrators that truly cared for him. They made it possible for Todd to achieve much more in his education than many thought possible. Todd attended Monte Vista Elementary (Utah), Valley View Elementary (Idaho), Franklin Elementary (Idaho), Jordan Valley (Utah), Fairmont Junior High (Idaho) and Capital High School (Idaho). Todd was instrumental in the start of a special education program at Capital. Todd loved his interaction with other students and his teachers. With their help, Todd was able to graduate from Capital High School. His fellow students gave him a standing ovation as he accepted his diploma.

During high school, Todd worked in the cafeteria at Valley View Elementary. He would walk from Capital High School to Valley View to help serve the lunch to the students. He enjoyed this time and looked forward to his own school lunch after working, especially those tater tots, pigs in a blanket and anything that had mustard on it. He was known to sneak an extra helping of tater tots for some of his favorite teachers.

Todd always had a love for baseball. It began in high school when he was the bat boy for the Capital High School baseball team. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan regardless of their record and was extremely happy in 2016 when the Cubs won the World Series. Todd would spend hours sorting through baseball cards. He would receive a box of baseball cards each year that included every major league player for that season. He would then organize every player in their respective teams and follow the trades throughout the year keeping the cards organized as teams. He knew the teams well enough he could list the players on each team by memory. Sometimes “or every week” this passion for tracking the players’ movements would trickle into list making during his Church meetings.

Graduating from high school was sad for Todd, as he would not have daily interaction with the many friends he made. Fortunately, the good people at Albertsons offered him a job working in the mail room at the main office. Todd worked Monday through Friday from 6 am to 10 am. He worked there for 26 years. Todd made many friends and enjoyed his time sorting the mail, going on mail runs, and socializing with all the workers in the main office.

Todd enjoyed music and loved listening to 80’s love songs, Christmas music, Country and Primary songs.

One of Todd’s other passions was food. He loved Hershey chocolate bars, McDonald’s fish fillets, Albertson’s maple bars, bologna sandwiches and chocolate cake.

Todd was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as the Sunday School Secretary for many years as well as a Primary teacher for several different classes over the years. He also enjoyed playing softball and basketball with the young men from the church. He was known for what he called his bonus shot. It was a long distance, two handed push shot that he practiced enough that he could make it with some regularity.

Todd is survived by his mother Elaine and father Glen, his sister Michelle Peters (Dennis), brothers Kyle Cleverly (Wendi), Chad Cleverly (Brooke), and his sister Kirsti Reed (John) and 20 nieces and nephews.

Todd always found the good in others, showed kindness and love, and was quick to forgive. Todd’s choice spirit had a powerful influence on all he met and he will truly be missed.
