Quentin Lloyd Mikesell
Quentin L. Mikesell passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 3, 2020, after a short but courageous battle with Covid-19. Quentin was born in Belleville, Kansas, to Mary Hope (Irwin) and Charles Mikesell. Quentin lived a life full of generosity and laughter. Growing up in Belleville, he spent most of his time working on the family farm. As the fifth of seven brothers, Quentin had an ADVENTUROUS childhood full of daring acts. He moved to Idaho in 1961 where he lived with his brother Chuck and his family and worked at the sawmill in Barber. In 1966, at the Fireman's Ball in Star, Idaho, he met the love of his life, a beautiful rancher's daughter from Jordan Valley, Oregon - Sharon Anderson. They were married in 1969. From this union came three daughters Cathy, Debby, and Shirley.
A hard-working, resourceful, likable man, he was a proud farmer, and rightly so. He was continually working to improve his land and equipment and often joked, "I have to sleep on my hands and knees to get a running start in the morning." He spent hours reading on the latest crop and livestock trials and talking to extension agents. He was a keen observer of the agricultural practices around him and made vast detours into farm country on family trips, occasionally to his passengers' frustration. The mountainous country of Idaho and Montana never quite appealed to his agrarian sensibilities. He often commented about the short growing seasons, poor soil, lack of water, and a feeling of being confined. He enjoyed his time in the fields and often said that he talked to God while walking in them.
Quentin was a humble man who gave his time and offered his help generously to all who came to his door. He took great joy from helping others. Quentin was always quick with a joke that lifted the spirits of all who visited him. Everyone left the house feeling better than when they came, usually with a couple of bags of his homemade peanut brittle. There was not a kinder man than Quentin.
He took great pride in his family and would often say, "I hope you don't think I am bragging, but" and then talk for hours about the achievements of his daughters and their families.
Quentin is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon; his daughters, Cathy (Carl Seielstad), Debby (Wes Erwin) and Shirley (Ike Hanley); his grandchildren, Jim, Pilar, Marin and John Seielstad; Wyatt and Jordan Erwin; Drew, Grace, and Fin Hanley; his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Margie Mikesell, Merrel and Nancy Mikesell; his brother, George Mikesell; his sisters-in-laws, Wilma Mikesell, Evelyn Mikesell and Sheryl Anderson; and numerous cherished and beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will be holding a small funeral for family and friends on Monday, December 14th at 2 pm MST at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Plymouth, Idaho. The service will be officiated by Pastor Dan Dykema. Seating is limited, but we will broadcast the service to allow those unable to attend in-person to still be with his family.
