Cindy Ann Davenport
Cindy Ann Davenport passed away peacefully at her home in Nampa, Idaho, on January 12, 2026, following a lengthy and courageous struggle with dementia.
Early Life & Education
Cindy was born April 14, 1949, in Magrath, Alberta, Canada, to Henry Lowell James and LaMona Bascom. She was the eldest of three children. While still a toddler, Cindy’s family moved to Ontario, California, where she spent most of her childhood and youth.
From an early age, Cindy displayed both talent and determination. She was a strong student, played the cello in the orchestra, performed in school plays, and competed on the high school basketball team. She graduated from Chaffey High School in 1967, then continued her education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
Marriage & Family
It was in her home ward in California that Cindy first met a tall, handsome missionary from Idaho—Lynn Davenport. They later reconnected at BYU and were sealed for time and eternity in the Los Angeles Temple on June 8, 1968.
Their married life began with a memorable adventure: a summer-long honeymoon spent atop a fire lookout tower on Sheep Mountain in Oregon, a quiet oasis that perfectly reflected Cindy’s love for meaningful experiences.
Cindy and Lynn eventually made their home in Idaho, raising their family first in Caldwell, later in Nampa, with a three-year chapter in Vernal, Utah. As a mother to Rebecca, Robert, Melissa, Jessica, Sara, and Dessa, Cindy was the steady heartbeat of her home—her children’s fiercest advocate and most enthusiastic cheerleader, always present and deeply invested in their lives.
Career & Service
Professionally, Cindy dedicated many years to education, serving as an administrative assistant at several elementary schools before retiring from South Middle School. Her calm presence, organization, and kindness left a lasting impression on staff and students alike.
Cindy was also widely known and respected in the world of athletics. For 38 years, she officiated volleyball, earning a reputation for fairness, consistency, and excellence that extended across Idaho and neighboring states.
Faith & Community
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cindy lived a life centered on lifting others. She served faithfully in numerous callings, including Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society President. To many, she was lovingly known as “Sister Friendly.”
Her heart was especially devoted to the Young Women’s program, and she treasured the weeks spent at Girls Camp, where her influence and love touched countless lives.
Those Who Preceded Her in Death
Cindy was preceded in death by her beloved son, Robert Lowell Davenport, and her parents, Henry Lowell James and LaMona Bascom.
Survived By
She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Lynn Austin Davenport; her children and their spouses Rebecca Lyn (John Hyde), Melissa Jean (Nick Vance), Jessica LaPreal (Robert Mortensen), Sara (Michael Epling), and Dessa Mae (Matthew Clark); her brother Tracy James (Benay); and her sister Karey McDonald. Her legacy continues through 21 grandchildren, their spouses, and eight great-grandchildren.
