Early Life
Joyce Elaine Chandler Haverfield passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, in Nampa, Idaho, from heart-related illness. She was born on May 4, 1928, in Weiser, Washington County, Idaho, to Clarence Whitney Chandler and Franka May Nitcher Chandler. Joyce was their first child and grew up in Weiser, where she attended Weiser High School before attending Brigham Young University for one year.
Faith & Service
Joyce had a lifelong love of music and singing, often sharing her voice in both sacred and community settings. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she faithfully served in many callings throughout her life, including in the Relief Society presidency, as a seminary instructor, and in family history and name extraction missions. Her service reflected her unwavering testimony and her deep desire to bless the lives of others.
Marriage & Family
While in Weiser, Joyce met the love of her life, Robert Amos Haverfield, and the two were married on April 9, 1948, in Weiser, Idaho. They shared 73 wonderful years together, building a life centered on faith, family, and love.
Over the years, the Haverfield family made their homes in Weiser, Boise, and Nampa, Idaho, as well as Missoula, Montana. Joyce also spent a cherished period in Adelaide, Australia, while serving alongside her husband in the Australia Adelaide Mission.
Life & Passions
Joyce was a devoted homemaker, often referring to herself with pride as a “domestic engineer.” She poured her energy and creativity into caring for her home and family. Outside of her home, she also served as President of the Republican Women’s organization in Montana, where her leadership and warmth touched many.
Her interests were as generous as her heart — she loved family history, sewing, music, and temple work. In her later years, Joyce found special joy in spending time with her younger sister, Lynn, whose companionship brought laughter and light into her days.
Family
Joyce will be remembered for her kindness, encouragement, and unwavering love for her family.
She is survived by her children:
David (Jodell), Joel (Kim), Cindy (Ty), Heidi (Clint), and Lona (Peter);
25 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Franka Chandler; her son, Joel Haverfield; and her granddaughter, Franka Elizabeth.
Service Information
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
121 N. Canyon Street, Nampa, Idaho.
A viewing will be held prior to the service at 10:00 a.m., followed by graveside services at 2:00 p.m. at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, 76 6th Street North, Nampa, Idaho.
Legacy
Joyce will be remembered for her faith, devotion, and the gentle strength that defined her life. Her music, her service, and her boundless love for her family and the gospel will forever echo in the lives of those she leaves behind.
