March 26, 1933 – July 31, 2025
Patty Lou Roland, 92, of Ontario, Oregon, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her loving family.
Patty was born on March 26, 1933, in a ranch house in Formoso, Kansas, Jewell County, to Harry C. Young and Dorothy Mae Lippincott Young.
At age 12, Patty’s family moved from Kansas to Payette, Idaho, settling on Baker Lane. They later returned to Kansas for a time, but when she was 16, the family came back to Idaho to live on a farm north of Payette. She celebrated her 16th birthday in Hagerman and graduated from Payette High School.
On February 5, 1952, at age 19, Patty married the love of her life, Theodore Lee Roland. Together, they shared more than 70 wonderful years. Their life began on a dairy farm on the Oregon Slope, where they raised two beloved children, Rodney Lee and Diana Lynn.
In April 1953, Theodore was drafted into the U.S. Army, and the couple was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. They returned to Ontario in 1955 to continue farming and running their dairy. A brief move to Groveland, California, in 1962 saw Theodore working in a diversion tunnel before they returned once again to Ontario in 1963 to resume life on the farm.
Patty devoted herself to her family, raising calves, tending a beautiful flower garden, and working as a cook at Pioneer School. She loved canning, fishing, arrowhead hunting, and was a talented cook—passing her skills on to her daughter. She and Theodore also enjoyed traveling, taking cruises, and visiting destinations including Reno, Germany, New Zealand, and Alaska.
She is survived by her son, Rodney Lee Roland; daughter, Diana Lynn Roland Phillips; son-in-law, Steve Dale Phillips; brothers, Keith and Louis Young; sister, Sharron Young Vaughn; grandchildren, Justin Dale Phillips (Keelie) and Heather Lynn Phillips Bruffett (Mike); and great-grandchildren, Ryker Phillips, Brayden Johnson, and Evanjelynn Bruffett.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theodore; and her brothers, Donald Young and Max Young.
Services
A viewing will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Thomason Funeral Home, 221 E. Court Street, Weiser, Idaho.
Graveside services will follow at noon at Riverside Cemetery, Payette, Idaho.
Immediately after, a Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. at River of Life Church, 800 17th Ave, Payette, Idaho. Friends and family are invited to share a meal in her honor—one last loving gesture from a woman who delighted in “feeding” her family, friends, and neighbors. Guests are welcome to bring a favorite dessert to share, in honor of Patty’s special love for sweets.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Ellie, Patty’s physical therapist, for her gentle encouragement, and to Canyon Hospice for their compassionate care during Patty’s final months.
