January 6, 1925 – April 5, 2025

Loris Arlene Lords, age 100, passed away peacefully at her home in Kuna, Idaho, on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

Born on January 6, 1925, at home on 6th Street in Payette, Idaho, Loris was the youngest of four children of Garland Clifford Walters and Mary Elizabeth Young Walters. An active and spirited child, Loris was riding her bike two blocks to visit her beloved Auntie Finskie by the age of four—combing her hair with all the care of a devoted little friend. Her energy and joy were unmistakable, touching every life she encountered.

Despite early health challenges—including a serious bout of whooping cough at age five and measles at age nine—Loris never lost her happy spirit. Her father's makeshift tent for fresh air and her mother’s loving care helped her recover with resilience and grace.

Loris graduated from Payette High School, where she served as a cheerleader and enthusiastically participated in school life. It was in grade school that she first met Vernon Lester Lords, who later moved away to Weiser, Idaho. Their paths crossed again during Vernon’s senior year, leading to a lifelong bond. Their first date—lightheartedly interrupted by her teasing brother Curt—sparked a romance that would endure the decades. Loris and Vernon were married on May 19, 1943, in Weiser and later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple after Loris joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Together, they raised four beloved sons: Merlin, V. Rod, Curtis, and Chris. Loris loved her boys fiercely, welcoming their friends and neighborhood children with warmth, laughter, and unforgettable food. Her fresh bread, gooey cinnamon rolls, and famous brown stone cake became legendary and enduring symbols of her hospitality and care.

Throughout her life, Loris worked a variety of jobs, but her favorite was as a school bus driver for the Nyssa School District. She not only managed regular routes with dedication but eagerly volunteered for extracurricular trips—including a memorable adventure from Nyssa to San Francisco along the Pacific Coast.

A woman of unwavering faith and service, Loris showed her love for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ through selfless acts and constant kindness. Following Vernon’s passing, she found peace and purpose in the temple, serving four missions at the Washington D.C. Temple. Known by many as simply "Honey," her sweet spirit and Christlike love earned her the affectionate nickname that truly reflected her heart.
