Douglas Robert Moss
May 10, 1966 – April 15, 2025
Douglas Robert Moss was born on May 10, 1966, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Robert Kay Moss and Carol Cunningham Moss. He was the eldest of eight children and brought a spirit of curiosity, intelligence, and kindness into every phase of his life.
In 1966, the Moss family moved to Brea, California, where Doug enjoyed playing at the park with cousins and exploring his world with wonder. When he was in fifth grade, the family moved back to Moore, Idaho, where Doug immersed himself in 4-H projects including lambs, rock collecting, entomology, forestry, and gardening—earning the Idaho State Fair 4-H Gardening Award in 1980. A hardworking and energetic young man, Doug earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1982 by refinishing picnic tables at Arco City Park.
Doug shared a special bond with his brother Dennis, only 13 months younger, and together they embarked on countless adventures. He graduated from Butte High School in 1984, receiving the Presidential Award for Academic Achievement. That same year, he spent several months working on a pineapple plantation in Hawaii, another example of his adventurous nature. From 1985 to 1987, he faithfully served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico.
Doug went on to study at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He married Brenda Flory, and on November 24, 1993, they welcomed their son, Trevor Lee Moss. In 1994, Doug graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Creighton University and began what would become his lifelong and passionate career in dentistry.
He established his first practice in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and later opened Moss Family Dentistry in Willows, California, where he served his community for 12 years. In 2024, Doug was recognized as one of the best dentists in Glenn County. He loved his patients and truly cared for the people he served.
Doug’s second son, Brady Douglas Moss, was born on March 24, 2011, with Susie Sutherland. Later, on May 8, 2021, he married Lucy Olson on a beautiful beach in Hawaii. Doug found great joy in teaching his stepchildren Ryan, Claire, and Kevin how to ride motorcycles, going camping, and enjoying family time in the hot tub. He had many hobbies, including playing the piano, painting, photography, hiking, Halloween decorating, and eating popcorn, but above all, he loved dirt biking in the mountains—always searching for new trails to explore.
Doug was known for his generosity, talent, work ethic, and his deep love for family. His vibrant personality and commitment to uplifting others left an indelible mark on the lives of his family, friends, patients, and community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lucy Moss; sons Trevor Lee Moss and Brady Douglas Moss; stepchildren Ryan, Claire, and Kevin Olson; parents Robert and Carol Moss; and his seven siblings: Dennis Moss (Danielle), Daryl Moss (Juleen), Shelly Stratton (Richard), David Moss (Sarah), Shauna Nalder (Laren), Sharlyn Richardson (Peter), and Shannon Brown (Nick).
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Moore Stake Center. A viewing will be held for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Pioneer Cemetery in Moore, Idaho, under the care of Anderson Family Funeral Home.
A memorial in Doug’s honor will also be held on May 10, 2025, in Willows, California, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 810 North Humboldt Ave. (Time to be determined.)
Doug will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
