Leon Jed Powell
March 17, 1938 – February 11, 2025
Leon Jed Powell was born at home in Heman, Idaho on March 17, 1938, to James Raymond Powell and Agnes Pearl (Terry) Powell. He passed away peacefully at his home in Moore, Idaho on February 11, 2025. Leon was an Idaho boy through and through, having lived in Heman, Rexburg, Sugar Salem, Darlington, and finally Moore.
After graduating from Sugar Salem High School, Leon served honorably in the United States Army, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, where he worked in artillery and radio equipment. Following his discharge in 1959, he married his sweetheart, Phyllis (Hope) Powell, on September 22, 1961, in Leslie, Idaho, at the LDS Church. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Leon was a hard worker with many talents. He excelled in electrical work, farm labor, constructing farm equipment, assembling irrigation systems, and problem-solving. His favorite jobs were repairing and pressing irrigation pipe and welding. Known for his inventive mind, Leon was always seeking “a better way,” and few could match his skill in fixing farm machinery or maintaining pivots and wheel lines.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, living his faith daily with generosity, forgiveness, and kindness.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Verla, Rulon, Eloise, Evelyn, Wendell, Thon, Seth, Shirley, Gerald, Phyllis, and Don Hisson; his brother Garth Powell; grandson Brandon Kent Powell; and great-grandson Liam Buckwalter.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Powell; brother, Lavar Powell; and children: Kent (Lori) Powell, Jed (Kelli) Powell, Stacey (Shayne) Loftus, and Gordon (Shaneen) Powell. He also leaves behind eighteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
