Lynel Logan Martin
Lynel Logan Martin passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from metastatic breast cancer.
She was born to Roy and Maureen (Pratt) Logan in Pocatello, ID on November 21, 1955. Lynel was the second of three children, between her big sister Royleen and her little brother Erv. Shortly after she was born the family moved to Nampa, ID where Lyn grew up attending Midway Elementary and Vallivue Junior and Senior High School. Their family enjoyed yearly trips to Warm Lake which laid a foundation for her appreciation for Idaho’s mountains. She enjoyed nature, including wildlife, hot springs, picking huckleberries, trees, and birds.
She married her former husband Jeff Carpenter in 1974, and they moved to Pocatello, ID where she was an amazing mom to her very blessed kids, Jenel, Scott, Brett, and Eric. She made lots of delicious dinners, inventive birthday cakes, and school party treats and attended countless award dinners, soccer games, and football games as an encouraging and devoted mom. She has remained a constant source of wisdom and support throughout their lives.
With her kids in school, she began working for the Pocatello School District and was employed at Lincoln, Edahow, and Syringa Elementary Schools before starting a long-term position as a library aide at Irving Junior High School. Later, she began working at the Federal Bureau of Investigation Data Center until her retirement in 2006. Her favorite part about these jobs was the lifelong friends that she made throughout her career.
In 1998, Lynel met the love of her life John Martin. They were married on May 25, 2002 in the Boise Idaho Temple and Lynel was blessed with four “bonus” kids; Alicia, Jenny, Jason, and Annette. She and John moved to Nampa, ID in 2007 where they focused on caring for their parents, and on one of their favorite roles, being Grandma and Grandpa. Of their time together John has said, “The love of my life gave me the life that I loved.”
Lynel served as an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life in various callings. More importantly she was valiant in her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and she demonstrated her discipleship of the Savior in how she treated others until the day she died. Lynel loved people. Her kindness, light, and enthusiasm were evident to all who knew her. One of her most distinguishing characteristics was her beautiful smile.
Lynel was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents Roy and Maureen Logan, grandson Michael Quintero, and son-in-law Warren Snook. She is survived by her husband John Martin, sister Royleen (Nick) Anderson, brother Erv (Robbin) Logan, daughter Jenel (Tracy) Cope, son Scott (Hailey) Carpenter, son Brett (Shalynn) Carpenter, son Eric (Jamie) Carpenter, daughter Alicia (Mark) Quintero, daughter Jennifer (Jared) Halls, son Jason (Erica) Martin, daughter Annette Snook, as well as numerous grandchildren, and a great granddaughter.
